TELLCAP® - Test of English Language Level for Controllers And Pilots
TELLCAP® – is a testing system developed for assessing proficiency in General and Aviation English in accordance with the ICAO Language Proficiency Rating Scale. The test is used for pilots, controllers, and aviation institution cadets in their final year of studies.
TELLCAP® allows assessment of language competence from Level 1 to Level 5. The level of proficiency in the English language is assessed by raters who are specially trained in the methods of correlating speech samples with the ICAO LPR Scale. The results of testing are included in the TELLCAP® Certificate. A list of Level 4 and 5 candidates is posted at www.tellcap.ru web-site and updated monthly.
TELLCAP® was developed in line with the ICAO requirements and recommendations on testing; it is based on the ICAO LPR Scale and designed for assessment of speaking and listening comprehension in aviation contexts.
TELLCAP® consists of six parts that comrpise communication on general and aviation-oriented topics, audio tasks and a role play. Its format provides for an evaluation of the test takers ability to communicate effectively on common, concrete and work-related topics both in face-to-face and voice-only environments, to identify and resolve misunderstandings, to cope with linguistic complications and unexpected turns of events, and to use and understand accents intelligible for an international community of users. The overall duration of the test is 38 minutes.
TELLCAP® is successfully used for the assessment of pilots and controllers in Russia and abroad. The test can be taken in Moscow, Ulyanovsk, Novosibirsk, Saratov, Magadan, Tashkent, Almaty, Shymkent. Our examiners can go to other locations on short notice.
The test is practical: only a laptop and two headsets are needed to run it. TELLCAP® has no written tasks, so test takers are not required to demonstrate an ability to read or write (or even type). TELLCAP® is a valid multi-version test with authentic contents and tasks adequate for both pilots and controllers.
